On Saturday, April 1, 2023, members from Plano Fire-Rescue Associates gathered at Station 8 C-shift to present our Above and Beyond award to Firefighter/Paramedic/Engineer John Burch.

In 2022, an elderly, disabled Plano resident was unjustly harassed and threatened by an untrustworthy service provider. A plumber had performed work that was detrimental to her system and was against city codes. In his off-duty time, Firefighter Burch stepped in and resolved the situation, obtaining a new permit from the City for the project, and performing the necessary repairs himself. The citizen called John “a blessing.” Firefighter Burch’s caring and professionalism while off-duty is the same spirit that he demonstrates daily as a member of the Plano Fire Department, and as a friend of Plano Fire Rescue Associates.

The annual PFRA appreciation picnic was held on September 17th with great success. Lots of on-duty and off-duty firefighters and their families attended and had a great time. We can’t host this event without our sponsors, so PFRA sends a big THANK YOU to all these great local businesses!
